It’s (not) the end of the world as we know it…

(See what I did there?  Threw in a little REM.)

One of the things that I hear most often is the second coming of Jesus.  Questions like: When will it be do you think?  Will I still be around when its happens?  How do you suppose it will happen?  Will there be signs?

I’ve read The Book of Revelations 3 times to see if my little brain could come up with any clue.  All I’ve really derived from it is that Heaven is exactly the place I want to be.  John describes the beauty of heaven by what was revealed to him.

Obviously no one knows when it will happen except God.  We know that much.  In addition, we know that it’s going to happen.  In Mark 13:34 Jesus said, “The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return.

Will there be signs?  In Luke 17:20  “One day the Pharisees asked Jesus, “When will the Kingdom of God come?” Jesus replied, “The Kingdom of God can’t be detected by visible signs.  That answered that question.

When?  That is answered in Matthew 24:26 “However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.

Here is what I tell people…just make yourself ready.  The end of the world will come either individually or collectively; most likely individually.  If, God forbid, I was doing one of my workouts, working in the yard or simply sitting on my toukas and had a heart attack I had better have my spiritual life in order.  I had better be the guy God expects me to be.  Therefore I ask myself the question:  “Am I ready?”  I ask myself everyday if I’m ready for the second coming of Jesus where he will judge if I will enter heaven or not.

Will I see the second coming of Jesus collectively with everyone else?  I have surmised that it really doesn’t matter.  As long as I’m ready to be judged I am ready to leave my life on earth and live with you all eternally in heaven.
